Caterpillar Ministries Youth Programs Director

Job Description

Caterpillar Ministries exists to partner with our neighbors living in the Huntington Green neighborhood in Huntersville, NC.  We seek to carry out the mission of Jesus by providing educational, spiritual and mentoring opportunities through genuine relationship. Together we are becoming all that God created us to be! We currently work with over 450 children and adults in Huntington Green. Our programs have grown and changed over the years, but our heart has remained the same since our founding in 2007.

The Youth Ministry at Caterpillar is a community of at least 60 youth (6th-12th) graders involved at least once a week (tutoring and/or gender/age specific discipleship groups) with over 100 youth in Huntington Green being impacted in some way by this ministry over the course of their middle/high school years.

We recognize that a strength of Caterpillar’s youth ministry exists in its non-staff leaders doing relational ministry with the youth. What we mean by relational youth ministry is that the ministry programs exist to cultivate and enable relationship between youth and mature disciples of Jesus. Ministry effectiveness is evaluated by how many and how deep these relationships are and the degree to which these relationships focus on following Jesus.

Position Description:

The primary responsibility of the Youth Programs Director is to work collaboratively with youth, staff, volunteers and community partners to make the name of Jesus known to all young people (6th-12th grade) in Huntington Green.  It is also to disciple them in their spiritual growth and to guide them to have a relationship with Jesus that enables them to become all the God created them to be.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

●      Organize, plan and implement middle and high school (boys and/or girls) youth programs including Bible study, worship, retreats and service opportunities.

●      Recruit, develop and empower teams of volunteer youth leaders who are doing relational ministry with youth in Huntington Green.

●      Develop and lead a youth advisory team who helps provide direction regarding the Caterpillar Youth Ministry.

●      Lead or teach large group teaching time at co-ed youth events.

●      Develop relationships with teens in Caterpillar programs, counsel them, and show support for them by attending school and community activities when possible (band concerts, award ceremonies, sporting events, graduations).

●      Lead in the planning of summer activities for middle and high school kids.

●      Lead in the planning of large events, field trips and retreats for youth.  

●      Follow-up with youth/families that are not attending programming consistently or not at all.

●       Communicate with parents (many are Spanish speaking) in regards to youth programs and issues.

●      Keep up with attendance/metrics as decided by Caterpillar Ministries

●      Be a team player supporting the mission of Caterpillar and attending staff meetings and community events as requested.


Qualifications:

●      Love for middle and high school students and a passion for them to know Christ personally.

●      Prior experience leading middle and high school students (preferably in a high poverty context)

●      At least functional communicator in Spanish (conversational fluency is a bonus)

●      Competent at leading volunteer teams as well as being a team player

●      Able to lead worship a bonus

●      Flexibility and adaptability

●      Personal, growing relationship with Jesus

●      Background and driving check clearance

●      Excellent moral character

●      Dedicated and compassionate Christian

●      Competent communicator and Bible teacher for youth

 

This position is 15 hours weekly(with a potential to increase to 25 hours/week) at a starting pay of $12.00 per hour. This position will report to the Executive Director (Sarah).

Communication and Development Director

Caterpillar Ministries’ Communication and Development ministry seeks to provide a cohesive vision and message to all of Caterpillar’s support systems which includes our staff, families, volunteers and community partners.

Position Description:

The primary responsibility of the Communication and Development Director will be to develop Caterpillar Ministries content in all of our communications including newsletters, emails, social media and website.

Duties and responsibilities:

●      Development and updating of all printed communications including newsletters, pamphlets, info cards, signs, banners, handbooks, invitations, etc.

●      Manage our Social Media including Facebook and Instagram.

●      Collect stories from neighbors, volunteers and staff to use in the development of newsletters, communication with partners, etc.

●      Website updates and maintenance that ensure our messaging is consistent with our vision

●      Responsible for content development for annual report

●      Create and maintain databases for in-kind donations, volunteers, etc.

●      Maintain donor records and acknowledgement of donors

●      Writing of all grants and other applications that involve Caterpillar’s mission

●      Create our end of year/camp sponsorship letters, etc

●      General administrative support for the Caterpillar Ministries staff team.

●      Be a team player supporting the mission of Caterpillar and attending staff meetings and community events as requested.

●      Assist staff in creating and implementing a fundraising plan.

 

 

Qualifications:

●      Communications, Marketing, Public Relations background a plus

●      Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite

●      Experience/background in photography and/or graphic design are a plus

●      Experience with Mailchimp, Moonclerk and Square Space

●      Experience in grant-writing

●      Highly organized and detail oriented

●      Must be self-driven and possess great interpersonal, speaking and writing skills

●      Passion for helping those in a high poverty context

●      Personal, growing relationship with Jesus
